New Teacher Development Series
New teachers juggle an overwhelming number of unfamiliar issues, such as classroom management, instruction, curriculum development, school culture and operations, test preparation and administration, state standards, engaging families, and interacting with other teachers. In addition, the demands of being a new teacher often leaves one with little time and energy to seek outside professional development. Left to themselves, new teachers may develop counterproductive behaviors. With our school-based, New Teacher Development Series, however, new teachers can learn more effective practices to apply to daily challenges. Our professional development program helps schools retain new teachers and set them on the path to becoming effective educators.[1]
Our work with new teachers is grounded in mastery of the following four domains of excellent teaching:
1. ENGAGING ENVIRONMENT: Create a classroom culture that is physically and emotionally safe for ALL students.
2. RIGOROUS INSTRUCTION: Plan & deliver high-quality, data-driven, engaging lessons that develop 21st century skills.
3. REFLECTIVE PRACTICE: Practice systemized and ongoing reflection, and adjust pedagogy and praxis accordingly.
4. WORK-LIFE BALANCE: Be intentional & diligent about self-care to ensure sustained effectiveness & career longevity.
